Internationally renowned artist installed her artwork Matters of Consequence in the atrium of University Hall, with participation and programming produced by 91视频 students.
Matters of Consequence was inspired by a 15th-century painting of a “studiolo,” a private space for study and reflection. This artwork becomes a platform for conversation, workshops, and exchanging materials and ideas, a public place for practicing climate-conscious behavior. It also serves as a pedestal to honor the work of student groups at 91视频 who are creating their own social systems through art practices, sustainability, mutual aid, food access, health, and fitness. The installation supports reflection on the impact of individual consumption and invites visitors into shared storytelling, “deep hanging out,” and survival strategies drawn from lived experience.
Throughout the exhibition period, students, alumni, and faculty are invited to to use the space and earn funding for creative, community-centered events.

Authoritarianism and Indigenous Resistance: Climate Change, Militarism, and the Rise of Artificial Intelligence
When: Tuesday, April 14 from 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM
Location: Ballroom C, Campus Center, 91视频. Virtual: Register for the Zoom webinar
Organization:
Indigenous Peoples have been on the frontlines of addressing climate change. While state commitments continue to fall short, Indigenous Peoples’ rights have become a critical frontier of protection for endangered ecosystems and biodiversity, not only through the protection of traditional ecological knowledge and practices, but also as a legal strategy to stop ecological destruction from large-scale extractive development. In recent years, however, states and corporations have increasingly advocated for “smart technologies” and “AI for good” as a climate solution, despite AI systems’ demand for staggering amounts of energy, water, and mineral resources. This talk traces how the global rise of AI has sparked a new “arms race” to access and control critical minerals, expand fossil fuel development, and increase investments in nuclear energy – while labeling any resistance as a threat to state interests and national security. This talk will explore the ways that Indigenous movements have resisted authoritarianism, the new threats to Indigenous Peoples and civil society, and how histories of resistance to colonial power structures can be instructive for the development of new strategies and solutions to combat the rise of technofascism.
