Student Success Programs
The Manning College of Nursing & Health Sciences (MCNHS) offers two programs for First-Year students to help support them in their transition to 91视频. Any student in the Aging Studies, Exercise and Health Sciences, Nursing, or Urban Public Health programs, can take advantage of these opportunities!
First-Year Learning Community:
All first-year MCNHS students are encouraged to join the First-Year Learning Community. This 1-credit course, will teach students skills and habits that will aid their success at 91视频! Students will be matched with an upper-class peer mentor who is also in their major, who will provide them guidance and support. They will have access to academic success workshops and programs that will help them build community within the Manning College of Nursing & Health Sciences.
Set SAIL for Success Course
INTR-D 110: Offered in the fall
Part one is designed to assist with the high school to college transition at 91视频 and the Manning College of Nursing and Health Science (MCNHS) community, and to position students for academic success. This course will address the social (S) and academic (A) aspects associated with transitioning to college.
INTR-D 111: Offered in the spring
Part two focuses on professional development and transferable skills useful for aspiring healthcare professionals. This course will address interprofessional (I) and leadership (L) development.
MCNHS Connect
MCNHS Connect is a peer mentoring program for new MNCHS undergraduate students.
All students within the Manning College are eligible to join MCNHS Connect in the spring semester of their first year. Students will be matched with a peer mentor for advice and support through the end of the fall semester sophomore year. Participants in this program will build connections with other students in the program through social events & academic success workshops offered throughout each semester.
Academic Success Workshops
MCNHS hosts a series of Academic Success Workshops in the fall and spring semesters. Sample workshops include:
- Syllabus Review & Semester Planning
- Time Management & Overcoming Procrastination
- Test Anxiety & Stress Management
- Developing Effective Study Techniques
- Note Taking Strategies
- APA & Writing for Health Sciences 101
Academic Coaching
MCNHS offers peer-to-peer Academic Coaching support. Academic Coaches are available for one-on-one appointments throughout the fall and spring semesters. You can do a one-time appointment or check-in with your coach on a regular basis.

- Improve time management, study habits, and test prep strategies
- Set and reach academic goals
- Stay motivated and overcome procrastination
- Can be beneficial for any student who wishes to brush up on their academic skills or seeking accountability!
